About Our Art…by the Corn Belt Carving Club

[ 0 ] January 5, 2011 |

Our featured art work for January 3 – February 28 is woodcarvings from members of the Corn Belt Carving Club.

This is my favorite part of working here, our scenery changes every two months with local talent!  The wood carving club has brought in some beautiful pieces to view; the detail is amazing on each piece!  Our lobby has a whole new look with a variety of pieces setting both on shelves, and the walls.  They have brought in everything from bears to fish to cottages, wolves and nature scenes.

The Corn Belt Carving Club was organized 28-years ago.  The basic purpose of the club is to continue the art of woodcarving.  They meet the third Thursday of each month at the Midwest Food Bank on Veterans Parkway in Bloomington, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; visitors are welcome!  The carvings are created using primarily hand tools and some power tools.  They feel that you always have something to learn when carving, and usually have professional carvers visit the club twice a year with a three day seminar.

This particular display will be a little different than past artists; the club members will return on February 1, to swap out some of their work with new.  So make sure you take a look at the display, both in January and February!
