Volunteer Adventures: Special Olympics

[ 0 ] July 1, 2011 |

The 2011 summer Special Olympics have come and gone this year.  My daughter and I decided to volunteer in the gymnastics events for our first run at it.  When we arrived to the volunteer tent we were a bit nervous, it was a much bigger scene than we had expected!  Once we arrived and were put to work…wow, what an amazing day!

The headquarters for the Illinois Special Olympics is located here in Normal Illinois, and the events are held on the campus of Illinois State University each June.  The environment is buzzing with energy and excitement!   You can just feel how excited the athletes are; and once the events began, these guys and gals really wowed us with their talent!  Along with helping to keep the flow of the events going and ensuring the athletes were ready to go, we definitely made some new friends for the day and will return next year.  We are hooked!
