Dale C. Evans, Artist Musician Luthier

Dale is our featured artist for March and April; his enthusiasm for painting and creativity really shows in his work.

Dale was born and raised in Bloomington, IL where he attended public schools. He remembers art classes being a magic time in grade school and when he got to junior high his art teacher, Herb Curtis, encouraged him to develop artistic skills.

He was fortunate enough to be a student of Elizabeth Stein at Bloomington High School. She emphasized the importance of drawing skills and a love of nature. His high school sketchbooks with her comments on the drawings are among his most cherished possessions! After high school he received a BFA in painting from Herron School of Art of Indiana University in 1970.

He has taught painting and drawing classes at the McLean County Arts Center where he was part of the exhibit “The Students of Elizabeth Stein, 1946-1970”.

In addition to painting he is a Luthier who builds folk instruments. Dale’s instruments can be found all over the country and a few overseas! He was featured in the Illinois State Museum exhibit called “Tuning the Wood – Illinois Luthiers”.

He has now returned to his first love – painting! His goal is to celebrate our beautiful Illinois landscape in all of its seasons and help others find the joy of creation!

Stop by and see his work!
