Online Banking changes coming soon! What does this mean for you?

[ 5 ] August 23, 2012 |

Get your cell phone or home phone handy. That’s right; our new security measures are going to require you to use your phones for authenticating a new computer or to reset your password. Challenge questions are almost completely gone (except for mobile banking in the mobile browser). You will have an option to receive your temporary password via SMS (text message) or voice phone call. We certainly aren’t doing this to make things more difficult on you; that is the last thing we want to do. This is a federally mandated change required by government regulations (FFEIC). Although from our perspective this is a much better way to secure your account. You know what kind of challenge questions and answers you use. I know I do and anyone who knows me could possibly guess my answers.

Having phone access is not the only change you are going to see. You will also be required to create a new username and will no longer use your member number to sign on. Once you create your new username, you will use it across all of our Online Banking products including our mobile apps.

We’ve also reorganized the navigation bar a bit to make things easier to find.

Here’s a rundown of the changes:

  • You need a cell phone or home phone the first time you log into a new computer or browser
  • You will no longer use your member number to log in. You will create a new username.
  • The navigation bar is being updated to better reflect its usage.

Watch the video below to see some of the changes you are going to see when you log in.

Well, I can understand the security aspect. But I have a enough of a hard time remembering all the pass codes, passwords, usernames etc… Especially ones that I have to create to make it hard for others to access, then I can’t remember what I used? and wind up not being able to get into my own acount let alone anyone else!

Hi Peggy! Thank you for the comment. We can all understand your issues with usernames and passwords. I think we all have them. I use a program called Password Safe to store my 195 usernames and passwords between work and personal and it works very well for me. You can also reference an earlier blog from us on coming up with and remembering passwords. Hope this helps!

When will we be able to deposit checks from a cellphone picture? Currently USAA Credit Union has this capability.

Hi Sue! Thanks for the question. This is something we have been researching. We want to make sure the functionality is an easy and safe process for our members first. Keep an eye out!

  3. Keep us posted of the changes, we really want to know.
