Responsible People

Sean-WellsI recently read an article which described one particular company’s definition of “The Rare Responsible Person”. This person is described as: 1) self-motivating, 2) self-disciplined, 3) self-improving, 4) picks up the trash lying on the floor, 5) never feels “that’s not my job”, and 6) behaves like an owner. The company’s point was that they strive to find and hire such people as these.

It was the last three attributes that resonated with me. At first “picks up trash on the floor” seemed out of place on this list. As I considered it I came to the conclusion that taking responsibility to pick up someone else’s trash exhibits an attitude of humility, and communicates “that IS my job” no matter how trivial.

“Behaves like an owner” is the attribute for which I’m most interested. As a dad it’s important that my kids “behave like owners” because it’s only then that they understand that if the family succeeds, they succeed. I’ll carry this thought forward to our team at IAACU. It’s important that everyone on the IAACU team has an attitude of ownership, fully understanding and faithfully working with the understanding that what is good for IAACU is also good for them.

It is our desire that our members also “behave like owners” for it is this characteristic that separates us from banks. When you joined IAACU you became an owner in this institution. What is good for IAACU is good for you as an owner and what is good for you, our members, is good for IAACU. There are no hidden agendas, there are no stockholders demanding higher dividends and increased profits, just an expectation of value by you, our owners.

We offer our sincere appreciation for your continued support of IAACU.
