About Our Art…By GW ‘Sam’ Hensey
By GW ‘Sam’ Hensey
Sam Hensey is a retired architectural consultant with State Farm Insurance Company. He received a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois.
After retirement Fred Mills, Chairman of Illinois State University Art Department, reintroduced him to the watercolor medium. He has attended workshops taught by Tom Francesconi, Fealing Lin and Don Andrews. He also attended art classes taught by local artists Nia Pirnat, Jeanne Ledbetter and Ed Burton.
With a lifelong interest in photography, my paintings are based mostly on photographs of a variety of subject. A substantial amount of drawing time is included with each painting. All drawing is done freehand.
Sam is a member of the Transparent Watercolor of America.
“Painting is easy when you don’t know how, and very difficult when you do.” Edgar Degas
