About Our Art…By Fernando Cornejo

Cornejo
A native of Bloomington Illinois and a graduate of Illinois College in Jacksonville Illinois. While attending Illinois College he received the Elizabeth Caine Award in Art Excellence and the McGaw Citation in the Arts.

After graduation, he has focused his talents on developing his series titled Numeros y Colores. This series has been very successful and has landed him several commissions. He continues to paint and exhibit. His work is avidly collected and can be found in many respected Illinois Universities.

His technique is very similar to reverse glass painting, an art form consisting of applying paint to a piece of glass and then viewing the image by turning the glass over and looking through the glass at the image. Fernando has updated this technique by using Acetate or Plexiglass instead of glass. This technique is very difficult because you have to think in reverse. Unlike traditional painting in which the last layer of paint is displayed, his first layer of paint is the most critical because it is the first layer that the viewer will see. Acrylic pain is the medium used.

Please join us for a reception to celebrate Fernando’s work and meet the artist Wednesday, November 12th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at IAA Credit Union’s main branch located at 808 IAA Drive in Bloomington, Illinois.

Fernando’s art will be on display at the IAA Credit Union until January 5, 2015.
