Free Credit Counseling

In the last issue of Money Rep, I briefly described some options our members have to avoid the heavy interest and fees associated with payday loans.   As identified in that article, one of the benefits of your membership at IAACU is free credit counseling.   There are five Certified Credit Union Financial Counselors (CCUFCs) on staff at IAACU.   These counselors can provide advice and help develop a plan to meet your credit and cash flow needs keeping you away from the onerous terms of payday lenders.

IAACU is a member-owned financial cooperative organized and maintained for the benefit of our members.  As such, we recognize that anyone can have financial problems for a range of reasons and we are here to help, not judge.  We believe chief among the essential qualities a financial counselor must possess is the ability to give members hope and motivate them to make necessary changes to relieve financial stress.

Check with IAACU before going to a payday lender.  Don’t let embarrassment be an excuse to keep you from getting help. Our counselors are professionals and deal with these situations regularly.  If we can’t help we’ll direct you to one of our partners who can.  Our goal is to look after your best financial interests, not “turn a buck” – we exist solely to serve our members and advance their financial well-being.

Sean has held the position of Chief Executive Officer at the IAA Credit Union since June of 2005. In this position, he is responsible for the overall management of the $200 million financial institution, assuring financial strength while providing maximum value to its members. Also, he ensures that the Credit Union complies with all State and Federal laws and operates within the policies and expectations of the IAACU Board of Directors.

He is a 1986 graduate of Illinois State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agribusiness with a minor in Economics. He has also completed the coursework and received the CPCU, ChFC and CLU insurance industry designations. Sean served a combined 20 years in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer retiring in 2002 at the rank of Major.

Sean and his wife Kim have five children and reside northeast of Eureka, Illinois in Woodford County.
