BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The IAA Credit Union on Jan. 20 presented a check for $8,468 to the IAA Foundation to benefit the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom (IAITC) program. The check presentation represented the total funds donated to the IAA Foundation throughout 2016. “We’re excited to be able to offer this donation to the IAA Foundation and Illinois Ag in the Classroom,” said Sean Wells, CEO, IAA Credit Union. “The funds donated in 2016 were earned when our members used their Illinois Farm Bureau VISA cards. Essentially, by using the Illinois Farm Bureau VISA card for business or pleasure, our members invested — and will continue to invest — in the future of Illinois agriculture and the mission of the IAA Foundation.” The IAITC program helps teach students the importance and vital role that agriculture plays in their lives and society by providing them with opportunities to learn about nutrition, science and agriculture through hands-on classroom experiences. The generous support and collaboration between the IAA Credit Union and the IAA Foundation helps make the following possible:

  • County Ag Literacy Grants: Funds from a variety of partnering organizations help support 74 County Ag Literacy Coalitions. County Ag Literacy programs, in turn, raise matching funds at the local level to implement programs.
  • Ag Mags: Ag Mags are four-color tabloid-type resources featuring Illinois agricultural commodities and issues. Each subject-specific issue is linked with the Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, and feature facts, career interviews and scientific experiments.
  • Summer Ag Institutes: These week-long classroom teacher training institutes are hosted by universities, community colleges and county Farm Bureaus.
  • Teacher and Book Grants: Grants are awarded to teachers to develop new and creative IAITC lessons to enhance classroom experiences. Themed sets of young reader and chapter books allow students to experience topics from animal care to conservation together as a classroom.
  • Ag Related Lessons and Units, including SMART Board technology.

Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom is the top funding priority of the IAA Foundation, Illinois Farm Bureau’s charitable foundation.
