License Sticker Renewals at IAA CU

If you haven’t heard, the state of Illinois is no longer sending out license sticker renewals in the mail. This has caused some drivers to worry heavily about expired stickers. In the past, our members have been reminded via a renewal postcard, sent by the Illinois Secretary of State, and then they simply bring their postcard to IAA CU or to the DMV. Now, there’s no postcard to jumpstart the renewal process.

Since the change, the Illinois Secretary of State’s office says fewer motorists renewed their license plate stickers in November and December. In fact, renewals fell 19 percent in November, according to the Chicago Tribune. This is most likely attributed to the change in renewal reminders. In fact, there are probably many people driving right now with expired stickers.

As the IAA Credit Union is the go-to place for many of our members to renew their stickers, we want to remind all of our members to check their sticker expiration. Even with the change in renewal reminders, we still do sticker renewals!

To renew your license plate sticker at the IAA CU main branch, you will need the following:

Your Old Registration

      Renewal Notice Postcard

VIN, Plate Number, and Expiration of Current Sticker

Your “Green Mail” (email) Renewal Reminder from the Secretary of State

If you’re worried about making sure your license plates are renewed on time every year, here are some of the things we recommend doing:

  • Sign up for “Green Mail” (email) renewal reminders through the Secretary of State’s website.
  • Set a recurring calendar reminder in your Outlook or phone calendar.
  • Put it on your calendar at home.

Here at the IAA Credit Union, we are honored to be your one-stop shop for all of your banking needs. We can’t wait to see you when your license plate sticker expires (and hopefully before then)!

Thank you for your membership!

Thank you for this update, I was going to ask about it on my next visit but now I know. I did sign up online with secretary of state, but they actually said that it “may” take one renewal cycle to be in place…I hope not.

    Thanks again for the update.
